DESCRIPTION
This piece is a tree planter/bench with a custom cast concrete core, faced with ceramic relief and mosaic tile. It preserves the history of the site of Cleveland's new Jacob's Field Ballpark and Gund Arena sports complex. Located in downtown Cleveland this site had been a bustling area where early immigrants lived, worked and shopped. The dominant feature on the site had been the Central Market. We used it as the focal point of our piece as well. The market theme is emphasized with the frieze of market goods along the bottom of the bench and reproductions of historic images chronicle the change and development of the area from its natural and rustic beginnings through the demolition and land clearing leading up to its present identity.
